Our Story

The story of The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company

Charles Hudson was looking for ways to diversify the farming on the Wyke Manor Estate when he stumbled upon the idea of real flower confetti…

The story of The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company began on a late spring afternoon in 1997. Charles paused outside the village churchyard on his way home. Strewn around the lych-gate were tiny wet pieces of coloured paper, debris from an earlier wedding. In other words, it had turned the church entrance into an eyesore.

So Charles could see why so many churches ban the use of confetti within church grounds. However, it seemed such a shame that the wedding celebrations could not have started as the happy couple stepped out of the church. Later that day, as he arrived home, some petals fell from the flower bouquet he was carrying for his wife… As the petals floated down prettily to the floor, he experienced a ‘EUREKA’ moment – and the idea of real flower petal confetti was born!

Charles Hudson’s method – The best blooms handpicked

Charles Hudson experimented with man flowers and carefully developed his own delicate process of drying petals. The exact details remain a closely guarded secret to this day, but we are allowed to tell you that it involves only sunshine and fresh air! Eventually, Charles chose delphiniums and cornflowers as his confetti petals. Because, above all, they retain their lovely shape and natural colour when dried.

So now, a huge field of flowers blooms on the Wyke Manor Estate each summer. It’s quite a sight to behold! We then pick all the petals by hand, mix them by hand, and send them out to weddings all over the world.

The demand for our natural, biodegradable confetti grew, and as a result, Charles added new flower petals to the range. In addition to our homegrown petals, we also offer collections of rose petals and hydrangeas. Furthermore, we went on to design a beautiful collection of handmade confetti cones, baskets, pretty packaging, and lucky bridal horseshoes. It’s all about the finishing touches.

Petal Growers for over 25 years

The Real Flower Petal Confetti Company has grown enormously since the late 1990s. We have been lucky enough to provide confetti for some quite well-known newlyweds, and, most famously, our petals were thrown over the now King Charles and Queen Camilla! But most importantly, we have supplied tens of thousands of weddings. Our lovely little petals add a little bit of magic to so many people’s special first steps together as a married couple. The confetti moment is a quintessential wedding day experience that we are so happy to help create for so many. We pride ourselves on the quality of our confetti and that we can offer every customer a personal service. Therefore, if you have any questions, queries or unusual requests – please just get in touch!

The idea of throwing real flower petals is simple, beautiful and full of joy. Charles Hudson believes that is why the custom has endured. Certainly, our aim remains helping you bring more happiness your to big day. Your photos seem to prove we are doing just that!
